News flash

  • IBC SOLAR, a leading German provider of photovoltaic (PV) and energy storage systems, has acquired a majority stake in SOLARWORLD Africa.
  • The acquisition follows a partnership established in 2022 and marks a critical step in IBCโ€™s long-term ambition to deepen its reach into Africaโ€™s solar PV market across all segments. ย

โ€œThe deal strengthens IBCโ€™s South Africaโ€™s solar supply chain and supports decentralised power generation amid rising electricity prices and grid instability,โ€ said IBC CSO, Patrik Danz.

SOLARWORLD Africa will transition into full IBC ownership after a two-year handover period.

IBC SOLAR has been active in South Africa since 2017, will now directly serve key solar markets across the continent through an expanded network. The merger enables a more efficient deployment of commercial-scale solar PV, large storage systems, and off-grid solutionsโ€”critical in regions with unreliable national grid coverage.

Green Building Africa promotes the need for net carbon zero buildings and cities in Africa. We are fiercely independent and encourage outlying thinkers to contribute to the #netcarbonzero movement. Climate change is upon us and now is the time to react in a more diverse and broader approach to sustainability in the built environment. We challenge architects, property developers, urban planners, renewable energy professionals and green building specialists. We also challenge the funding houses and regulators and the role they play in facilitating investment into green projects. Lastly, we explore and investigate new technology and real-time data to speed up the journey in realising a net carbon zero environment for our children.
