  • The hybrid solar and battery system improves energy security for industrial operations.
  • The installation delivers ZAR 1.31 million in savings within first months of operation.
  • The project highlights growing uptake of integrated clean energy solutions in South Africa with GoodWe smart energy technology the preferred choice.

GoodWe, a global provider of smart energy technology, has completed a flagship commercial and industrial solar and storage installation in Gauteng in partnership with Plexus SA, demonstrating the financial and operational benefits of integrated clean energy systems.

The project has been designed to address rising demand among businesses for stable, cost effective and sustainable power. By combining solar PV generation, battery storage and hybrid inverter technology, the installation supports improved energy resilience while reducing reliance on the national grid.

At the core of the system are ten 50 kW GoodWe ET hybrid inverters, supported by static transfer switches that ensure seamless transition during grid outages. This configuration enables uninterrupted power supply and strengthens operational continuity for the host facility.

Energy storage is provided by twenty 56 kWh battery units, delivering a total capacity of 1.12 MWh. The system allows for intelligent energy management, enabling stored power to be deployed when needed and helping to stabilise energy supply during periods of grid instability.

The installation also includes a 900 kWp solar PV array using high efficiency modules supplied by LONGi Africa, supporting consistent generation performance and long term system reliability.

Within a few months of commissioning, the system has already delivered savings of ZAR 1.31 million for the metal fabrication facility, highlighting the strong return on investment available through advanced energy solutions in the industrial sector.

The project underscores the role of partnerships in accelerating clean energy adoption, with Plexus SA contributing to the successful delivery of the installation.

As businesses across South Africa seek to mitigate energy risk and manage rising electricity costs, projects such as this illustrate how integrated solar and storage solutions are enabling more resilient and sustainable commercial operations.
