- Anthem has reached a major construction milestone at its Northern Cluster renewable energy development, with the final wind turbine foundation cast this week at the Ishwati Emoyeni Wind Farm.
- The achievement means all 96 foundations across the cluster have now been completed.
The 420 MW Northern Cluster comprises three 140 MW wind farms situated near Murraysburg in the Western Cape. Each site will host 32 Vestas V163-4.5 MW turbines, featuring 96-metre hub heights and 163-metre rotor diameters. Raubex Infra (Pty) Ltd is delivering the civil and electrical balance-of-plant works, including all turbine foundations and distribution grid connection infrastructure.
Sam Cook, Anthem’s Head of Asset Management and Construction Project Manager, praised the teams behind the achievement.
“Completion of the 96th turbine foundation today is a significant achievement for Anthem and the Raubex Infra teams,” he said. “A great many people have contributed – from steel fixers to concrete truck drivers, pump operators, the concrete placing team, health and safety managers, foremen and engineers. Today’s pour began shortly after midnight and was completed late this afternoon – all in a day’s work for our hard-working construction teams.”
With the foundations complete, turbine installation will continue through 2026, followed by testing. Full commercial operation of the Northern Cluster is expected in the fourth quarter of 2026.
Once operational, the Northern Cluster is set to make a substantial contribution to South Africa’s energy supply and broader economic development.
