Eskom tenders for 19.4MW solar project at wind farm

  • South Africaโ€™s state-owned energy utility, Eskom, has released a tender for a 19. MW solar farm to be located next to their 100MW Sere Wind Farm in the Western Cape.
  • The project plus others were started as part of JET and Eskom drive to decarbonised its fleet with more than 2000MW of renewables. Read more

The site is also a Eskom Renewable hub (Wind, Solar & BESS in location). Sere 19.5 MW Solar PV Phase 1A project is developed as fast track project, and it was opted to be done quickly though Environmental Basic Assessment (EBA) rather than full Environmental Studies.

Through this EBA certain limitation were put in place including-ย  less than or equal to 20-hectare limitations and less than 20MW, i.e. on the 19.5MW Eskom owned land and connected via underground cabling to the Skaapvlei Substation, estimated to be about 300m from plant.
