  • Eskom Group Chief Executive, Dan Marokane, has been honoured with the Public Sector Visionary Award at the BBQ Awards 2025—an honour presented by Black Business Quarterly, a platform that celebrates excellence in black entrepreneurship, leadership, and transformation across South Africa.

The BBQ Awards recognise individuals and organisations that promote sustainable black business and drive meaningful change through strong governance and visionary leadership. This award acknowledges Mr. Marokane’s exceptional leadership at Eskom, where his strategic direction has brought stability to the national grid, restored public confidence, and reinforced Eskom’s commitment to energy security. His efforts have supported key socio-economic programmes, advanced transformation, and positioned Eskom as a sustainable, investable company ready to compete in the marketplace.

Beyond the boardroom, Mr. Marokane’s leadership has inspired and guided the thousands of dedicated Eskom guardians—those who work tirelessly across the organisation to keep the lights on for South Africa. His clear vision and unwavering support have empowered teams at every level, fostering a culture of accountability, resilience, and excellence. He accepted the award accompanied by Bheki Nxumalo, Group Executive for Generation, and Monde Bala, Interim CEO of NTCSA—highlighting the strength and unity of Eskom’s leadership team.
