- South African energy trader, Energy Energy Exchange of Southern Africa (EXSA) and Seriti Green have reached financial close on the 155 MW Ummbila Emoyeni wind energy project in Mpumalanga.
- The deal is structured around a 15 year power purchase agreement which will see EXSA procure the full capacity of the wind farm for distribution to its portfolio of large corporate and industrial customers via wheeling arrangements with Eskom using the national grid.
The R5 billion project will generate approximately 525 GWh of clean energy annually and is expected to enter commercial operation by October 2027. Construction will incorporate 25 wind turbines fitted with the largest blades currently in use in South Africa.
The 155 MW wind energy facility is the first phase of Sereti Green’s larger, ~900MW renewable energy cluster called Ummbila Emoyeni located between Bethal and Morgenzon in Mpumalanga. Ummbila Emoyeni is a combination of 750 MW wind energy facilities and 150 MW solar PV plants. The entire project has been designated as a Strategic Integrated Project by the Department of Public Works and Infrastructure.
“Reaching financial close on this project is a positive step forward for the South African renewable energy market, demonstrating the private sector’s key role in solving the energy supply gap,” says Wayne Cowie, CEO of EXSA.
