- 500 MW utility scale solar PV plant to be developed in Egypt’s West Nile region.
- Project structured as BOO with EETC as sole off-taker.
- Bid submission deadline set for May 11, 2026 in support of Egypt’s 42% renewables target by 2030.
The Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company has issued a tender for the development of a 500 MW solar photovoltaic plant in the West Nile region under a Build Own Operate model.
The project will be implemented on an Independent Power Producer basis, with EETC acting as the sole off-taker. Qualified developers have been invited to submit bids by May 11, 2026.
The procurement process is being supported by Synergy Consulting Inc. and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, reflecting continued international backing for Egypt’s clean energy pipeline.
The initiative forms part of Egypt’s national strategy to increase the share of renewable energy in its generation mix to 42% by 2030 and 60% by 2040. The new solar tender follows a recently announced 1 GW wind procurement in the West Sohag region, underscoring the country’s accelerating push to diversify its power mix and attract private sector investment into large scale renewables.
For developers and investors, the BOO structure provides long term revenue visibility under a single buyer framework, while supporting Egypt’s broader decarbonisation and energy security objectives.
