- USA: Entertainment Company Disney recently commissioned a 50-MW solar farm at its Florida amusement park complex.
- The installation includes 518,000 solar panels on a 270-acre plot next to Disneyโs Animal Kingdom.
- The company said the solar farm will provide power for about 25% of Disneyโs property in central Florida.
Calling it a โgiant leap forward in our emissions efforts,โ Disney World environmental integration director Angie Renner said the new facility โsignificantly reduce net greenhouse gas emissions, joining the numerous efforts The Walt Disney Company has launched to deliver its 2020 goal of reducing emissions by 50 percent compared to 2012.โ
By Disneyโs original estimates, the solar facility at Disney World will reduce emissions by more than 57,000 tons annually while generating enough energy to power two Disney World parks.
The solar farm is a collaboration with Origis Energy USA, a Miami, Florida-based solar company, and the Reedy Creek Improvement District. Disney in 2016 installed a 5-MW solar farm in the shape of ย Mickey Mouseโs head to power part of Epcot Center.
In December 2018 Forbes reportedย in that the company was considering building a large solar facility at Disneyland Paris that would handle 15 percent of the resortโs energy needs.
