  • Zambia’s Minister of Energy, Mr Makozo Chikote, will officiate at the groundbreaking ceremony of the Cooma Solar Plant in Choma District, Southern Province on Friday.ย
  • The project is a landmark renewable energy project with a generation capacity of 60 megawatts (MW) and an additional 20MW of battery energy storage.

The project marks a major milestone in Zambiaโ€™s ongoing energy diversification efforts aimed at enhancing electricity reliability, expanding access, and promoting environmental sustainability.

Once operational, the plant will feed clean power into the national grid, while the integrated battery storage system will help stabilize supply and ensure consistent delivery during peak demand periods.

The ceremony will draw senior government officials, traditional leaders, development partners, and private sector stakeholders. It underscores the governmentโ€™s commitment to accelerating investment in green energy infrastructure and supporting Zambiaโ€™s transition to a low-carbon economy.
