  • French IPP, EDF, ย reports that the erection of its concrete towers at the Koruson 1 wind project is progressing well in South Africa. ย
  • Several towers have now reached the final M32 level and are being steel-capped and tensioned, prior to the turbines and blades being fitted.

Comprising 32 concrete sections and a steel adaptor, they are 124m high. Each tower each comprises 50 keystones to make up the sections, all manufactured locally at a concrete tower factory outside Middelburg.

The Koruson 1 cluster of three wind farms (Phezukomoya, San Kraal and Coleskop) is located outside Middelburg and Noupoort. There are 78 wind turbines which will be installed on the concrete towers, across the three sites.

Developed by EDF Renewables in partnership with H1 Holdings, GIBB-Crede and a local community trust, each wind farm will have a capacity of 140 MW, with a total installed capacity of 420 MW.

Green Building Africa promotes the need for net carbon zero buildings and cities in Africa. We are fiercely independent and encourage outlying thinkers to contribute to the #netcarbonzero movement. Climate change is upon us and now is the time to react in a more diverse and broader approach to sustainability in the built environment. We challenge architects, property developers, urban planners, renewable energy professionals and green building specialists. We also challenge the funding houses and regulators and the role they play in facilitating investment into green projects. Lastly, we explore and investigate new technology and real-time data to speed up the journey in realising a net carbon zero environment for our children.
