Construction of 2.5MW solar project begins in Kenya with steel producer as off-taker

  • Construction is underway for the 2.5MW solar project at steel producer, Abyssinia Awasi in Kenya.
  • The developer, Norway’s Empower New Energy, appointed Spenomatic Kenya Ltd as EPC contractor for the project.
  • The project is set to be commissioned at the end of the year.

The project marks a significant step forward in Empower New Energy’s entry into the competitive and dynamic East African solar market.

Abyssinia Group of Industries has established itself as one of the largest steel producers in the region, with an impressive annual capacity nearing a million metric tons. With operations spanning Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia, and Rwanda, AGI is not just meeting local demands but also catering to the export market across East Africa and Europe.
