  • Phase 1A of the project will deliver 31 MWp of solar capacity across 58 hectares in Nelson Mandela Bay.
  • The project is expected to come online in Q1 2027 and will supply wheeled power to businesses across the municipal network.

Construction has officially commenced on Phase 1A of the Parsons Power Park solar development in Nelson Mandela Bay, marking another milestone for South Africa’s growing wheeling market.

The 31 MWp solar PV project, which spans the equivalent of 80 football pitches, is being developed by independent power producers Yellow Door Energy, Raw Renewables and Natura Energy, with Alensy Energy Solutions serving as EPC contractor. The project reached financial close in February 2026.

Once operational, Parsons Power Park will provide renewable electricity to businesses located in the Coega Special Economic Zone and across Nelson Mandela Bay through the municipality’s wheeling network.

The solar facility will feature more than 47,000 solar panels mounted on single axis trackers to maximise generation throughout the day. The plant is expected to produce approximately 60 GWh of renewable electricity annually while avoiding around 54,360 tonnes of carbon emissions.

During the construction phase, the project will support local employment opportunities and prioritise the use of local contractors through a dedicated community programme.

PowerX has been confirmed as the project’s off-taker under an existing power purchase agreement. The company was the first private sector electricity trader in South Africa to receive a trading licence from the National Energy Regulator of South Africa and has more than 10 years of experience in renewable energy trading.

Additional project partners include 3E Renewable Energy Services as Owner’s Engineer, SRK Consulting as Environmental Compliance Advisor and Engineering Advice & Services as construction health and safety agent.
