Botswana reports ‘grid disturbance’ causing national blackout

  • In the ealry hours of Monday morning, Botswana experienced a national blackout.
  • In a statement released on Monday, Botswana Power Corporation (BPC) said a “grid disturbance” caused an outage at both Morupule A and B Power plants, as well as the Transmission Power Line that connects Botswana to South Africa. 
  • This caused a “countrywide blackout”, said BPC.

The Corporation said at the time of the grid disturbance, the Country was generating 505MW of electricity and exporting 60MW. “We are currently undertaking investigations to determine the cause of the grid disturbance. We are currently restarting both of our power generation plants,” says the BPC.
