  • BEKA Schréder is thrilled to have won the Best Supporting Affiliate Member Award at the Association of Municipal Electricity Utilities (AMEU) 2023 President’s Awards.

The 2023 President’s Awards were presented during the AMEU Convention’s gala dinner on the 3rd of October. BEKA Schréder is proud to have been awarded the Best Supporting Affiliate Member Award. This Award was based on the criteria for most sustainable project, which was Stanford Road in Gqeberha (Eastern Cape), where a solar lighting highmast solution was supplied. This installation is the result of the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality’s initiative to keep cables out of the reach of criminals through its highmast solar lighting pilot programme.

BEKA Schréder’s SOLARFLOOD was chosen for this pilot project. 20m high solar highmasts were chosen to combat rampant cable theft and destruction of infrastructure and, furthermore, to be able to provide lighting for the community when there is loadshedding, thus increasing safety and well-being for the community. This is the first solar highmast installation in the Eastern Cape, and a successful pilot project for the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality.

Green Building Africa promotes the need for net carbon zero buildings and cities in Africa. We are fiercely independent and encourage outlying thinkers to contribute to the #netcarbonzero movement. Climate change is upon us and now is the time to react in a more diverse and broader approach to sustainability in the built environment. We challenge architects, property developers, urban planners, renewable energy professionals and green building specialists. We also challenge the funding houses and regulators and the role they play in facilitating investment into green projects. Lastly, we explore and investigate new technology and real-time data to speed up the journey in realising a net carbon zero environment for our children.
