- The Australian Governmentย is working with states and territories to upgrade our electricity infrastructure and networks to ensure Australia maintains a reliable power supply while lowering energy prices.
In collaboration with states and territories to create the National Renewable Energy Priority List (Priority List), 56 priority projects have been identified nationally consisting of 24 transmission, and 32 generation and storage projects.
If approved through Commonwealth, state and territory regulatory planning and environmental processes, these projects could deliver an additional 16 GW of generation and approximately 6 GW of storage capacity across the nation. Nationally, these generation projects can provide the annual electricity needs for over 9 million homes. The storage projects could meet peak energy demand for over 5 million homes for up to 4 hours. Among the priority projects is the bp-backed 26 GW wind and solar powered Australian Renewable Energy Hub (AREH), which also has the โmajor projectโ status from the Australian government.
The Australian Clean Energy Council has confirmed that in terms of investments, the country is on track to achieve 82% renewable energy target by 2030.
