- Italy’s Enel Green Power subsidiary in South Africa has fully commissioned the 147 MW Karusa wind farm near Sutherland in the Western Cape.
The plant is expected to generate over 585 GWh annually using Vestas supplied wind turbines, avoiding the annual emission of around 611,000 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere. The project, which started construction in November 2019, is one of five wind power projects won by Enel Green Power RSA in South Africa’s Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Programme under 20-year power purchase agreement with the South African energy utility Eskom.
EPC, ACED Renewables Hidden Valley (Pty) Ltd, owned by Enel Green Power RSA managed the construction. 35 x V136-4.2MW Vestas wind turbines were installed.
The other Round 4 projects won by Enel Green Power RSA with an installed capacity of 140MW each are Soetwater also in Sutherland, Nxuba and Oyster Bay in the Northern Cape, as well as Garob in the Eastern Cape.
