  • Italian multinational energy company, Eni and Sonangol, Angola’s energy parastatal has reached the Final Investment Decision (FID) and the signing of the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contract for the first phase of the 50MW Caraculo photovoltaic project, located in the Namibe province.

These milestones confirm the progress of the project, in line with the expected start-up in the fourth quarter of 2022. The plant will have a total capacity of 50 MWp with the first phase being 25 MW capacity.

The Caraculo photovoltaic plant will be an important source of electrical power in the Namibe province, from a renewable resource, and will allow the reduction of diesel consumption for electricity generation, thus reducing the emission of greenhouse gases (GHG) and contributing to Angola’s energy transition.

In addition to the positive impact on the environment, the project will also contribute to the sustainable development of communities in the surrounding areas, which will benefit from social interventions including access to energy, access to water, health and education.

In their press release did not specify who they appointed as EPC contractor.

Green Building Africa promotes the need for net carbon zero buildings and cities in Africa. We are fiercely independent and encourage outlying thinkers to contribute to the #netcarbonzero movement. Climate change is upon us and now is the time to react in a more diverse and broader approach to sustainability in the built environment. We challenge architects, property developers, urban planners, renewable energy professionals and green building specialists. We also challenge the funding houses and regulators and the role they play in facilitating investment into green projects. Lastly, we explore and investigate new technology and real-time data to speed up the journey in realising a net carbon zero environment for our children.
