  • How are climate changes impacting daily life and economic wellbeing?
  • How do people perceive renewable energy solutions?

The inaugural African edition of the European Investment Bank Climate Survey provides some insights. The majority of Africans report that climate changes are already having repercussions on their everyday lives and income.

What Africans think:

  • 88% believe that climate changes are already impacting their daily lives
  • 61% think that climate changes and environmental harm have affected their incomes or livelihoods
  • 76% believe a priority should be given to renewable energies

The survey results came at a critical moment for Africa, following COP 27, where the central issues were finding more resources to mitigate global warming and adapting to its effects. A decisive agreement was also made on a new “loss and damage” fund for vulnerable countries severely hurt by climate disasters.

Green Building Africa promotes the need for net carbon zero buildings and cities in Africa. We are fiercely independent and encourage outlying thinkers to contribute to the #netcarbonzero movement. Climate change is upon us and now is the time to react in a more diverse and broader approach to sustainability in the built environment. We challenge architects, property developers, urban planners, renewable energy professionals and green building specialists. We also challenge the funding houses and regulators and the role they play in facilitating investment into green projects. Lastly, we explore and investigate new technology and real-time data to speed up the journey in realising a net carbon zero environment for our children.
