Google+ Pinterest LinkedIn Tumblr +
  • GHS Green Hydrogen ELIDZ (Pty) (GHS) Ltd is proposing to develop a 10MW green hydrogen production pilot facility within the East London Industrial Development Zone (ELIDZ) in the Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality (BCMM)
  • The proposed Green Hydrogen pilot project comprises a 10 MW modular unit and a solar PV facility.
  • GHS is curently seeking environmental approval for the project.

The production of hydrogen and the concept for the proposed Green Hydrogen pilot facility consists of the following key elements:

  • Electricity receiving from a solar PV facility;
  • Treatment of seawater to meet electrolyser specification, including the management of the resulting brine discharge;
  • Production of hydrogen through an electrolysis process and the evacuation of the hydrogen and oxygen;
  • Compression and storage of the hydrogen gas; and
  • The dispatch of the hydrogen to off-takers.

The uses of the hydrogen produced by the pilot facility include:

  • Replacement of non-critical LPG supply as well as other use cases in industry; and
  • Logistics (fuel cells or internal combustion engines that run on hydrogen).

Green Building Africa promotes the need for net carbon zero buildings and cities in Africa. We are fiercely independent and encourage outlying thinkers to contribute to the #netcarbonzero movement. Climate change is upon us and now is the time to react in a more diverse and broader approach to sustainability in the built environment. We challenge architects, property developers, urban planners, renewable energy professionals and green building specialists. We also challenge the funding houses and regulators and the role they play in facilitating investment into green projects. Lastly, we explore and investigate new technology and real-time data to speed up the journey in realising a net carbon zero environment for our children.
