  • UAE independent power producer, Pal 4 Énergie Solaire, has won a contract to construct a 100 MW Solar PV plant in Diéma, western Mali.
  • The project has been commissioned by the municipality of Diéma.

The concession agreement for the project was signed by Pal 4 Solar Energy’s Managing Director Muhammad Zafar and Sambou Wagué, Mali’s Minister of Energy and Water. The UAE company will build, own and operate the power plant under a 25 year power purchase agreement (PPA).

The scope of the project also includes the construction of medium and high-voltage lines that will connect the city of Diéma to the capital Bamako. The construction of these lines will also connect the towns of Nara, Nioro and Banamba to Mali’s national power grid. According to Minister Wagué, the work will soon start for a period of 12 to 14 months.

As is the trend in many other countries in Africa, Mali has decentralised its energy policy to allow for public private partnerships for the construction of its power generation facilities. This includes allowing mines to produce their own power or procure from independent power producers (IPP’s). Read more
