  • Tunisia invites international IPPs to develop a 300 MW solar plant with 150 MW battery storage at the Bazma site.
  • The project forms part of the country’s strategy to achieve 35% renewable electricity by 2030.
  • Registration for the Request for Proposals closes on May 8, 2026.

The Tunisian Ministry of Industry, Mines and Energy has launched an international tender for a large hybrid renewable energy project at the Bazma site in the Kebili governorate as the country accelerates its transition toward clean electricity.

The project will combine a 300 MW photovoltaic power plant with a 150 MW battery energy storage system providing 600 MWh of storage capacity. The facility is expected to deliver 540 MWh of electricity from storage to the grid, strengthening supply stability and supporting the integration of solar generation.

The development will follow a solar park model under the Independent Power Producer framework, allowing private developers to finance, build and operate the facility.

Interested Independent Power Producers must register by May 8, 2026 to receive the full Request for Proposals documentation. The tender forms part of Tunisia’s broader renewable energy expansion programme aimed at increasing the share of renewables in the national electricity mix to 35% by 2030.

The initiative follows approval granted in December 2025 by the High Committee for Private Electricity Generation for approximately 2.3 GW of new renewable energy capacity across the country.

Located in southern Kebili, the Bazma project is expected to become one of the largest integrated solar and battery developments in Tunisia once completed. The project also reflects a growing trend across North Africa toward pairing large scale solar generation with energy storage to enhance grid reliability and manage intermittency.
