  • TotalEnergies is seeking engineering, procurement and construction services for a 7.1 MW solar power plant at the Afungi LNG site in northern Mozambique.
  • The solar facility will support operations at the Mozambique LNG project while reducing operational emissions through the use of renewable energy.
  • The tender follows the resumption of activities at the LNG development after the lifting of the force majeure declared in April 2021.

TotalEnergies has launched a tender for the construction of a 7.1 MW solar photovoltaic power plant at its Mozambique LNG project in Afungi, Cabo Delgado Province, reinforcing its commitment to integrating renewable energy into large scale oil and gas operations.

The tender invites expressions of interest for engineering, procurement and construction services for the solar facility, which will be developed within the Area 1 LNG project operated by the Mozambique LNG consortium led by TotalEnergies.

The solar plant will occupy approximately 6.5 hectares and will comprise around 13,224 photovoltaic modules that have already been procured by TotalEnergies. The successful contractor will be responsible for installing the plant and operating the facility once construction is complete.

The project is intended to provide clean electricity to support the construction and operation of the Mozambique LNG development while helping to reduce the project’s Scope 1 and Scope 2 operational emissions. The initiative forms part of TotalEnergies’ broader strategy to integrate renewable energy assets into its global oil and gas portfolio as it works to lower the carbon intensity of its operations.

The solar tender follows the restart of onshore and offshore activities at the Mozambique LNG project after operations were suspended in 2021 under a force majeure declaration triggered by security challenges in Cabo Delgado. The lifting of the force majeure has enabled work on one of Africa’s largest liquefied natural gas developments to resume.

TotalEnergies has not published the procurement documentation on a public platform. The company is distributing the tender through its secure procurement and bidding systems.
