South Africa: Energy Minister to Announce Preferred Bidders for 2000MW Risk Mitigation Procurement Today

  • The Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy, Mr Gwede Mantashe has call a press briefing 4pm today to provide an update on latest developments in the South African energy sector.
  • Minister Mantashe is expected to announce the preferred bidders for the procurement of the 2000 MW Risk Mitigation Independent Power Producer Programme (RMIPPP) and provide further details on the procurement of additional power in line with the Integrated Resource Plan 2019 (IRP2019).

Minister Mantashe originally announced to parliament in October 2020 that REIPPPP bid window for Round 5 would open in December 2020. Read more . The programme has been delayed for a better part of 5 years.
