- SBS Solutions East Africa Limited, a division of SBS Tanks Pty Ltd, recently completed the successful installation of two bulk fire water storage tanks at the new Kenya Wine Agencies Ltd (KWAL) production facility in Kenya’s first operational Special Economic Zone in Tatu City, Kiambu.
The local manufacturer of world renowned brands including Viceroy Brandy, Amarula, Hunter’s Gold and Hunter’s Dry Ciders, recently relocated its production operations to a custom built, ultra-modern manufacturing facility in the Tatu Industrial Park.
Fixed fire protection system specialists, Flammatech Limited, appointed SBS Solutions East Africa Limited to install the two SBS fire water storage tanks at the new KWAL facility which also includes a customer distribution centre and office space. The two SBS Tanks, standing just over six metres tall, each store 516,000 litres of water and form part of the fire suppression system installed to safeguard the new facility in the event of a fire. With over a million litres of fire water storage stored within the two modular, bolted steel panel water tanks, the new facility not only offers improved production and working conditions, it also safeguards the lives and livelihoods of KWAL employees and customers.
Founded in 1969 KWAL includes Dutch alcohol giant, Heineken and the Kenyan government, through its Industrial and Commercial Development Corporation (ICDC) as part of the company’s shareholder base. After 34 years of operation from the Enterprise Road Industrial Area, the move to the fastest-growing new industrial zone in Kenya and East Africa, is expected to enhance KWAL’s production capacity and competitiveness within the East African region. Improving local value creation and enabling the group to rise to the challenges of ever-evolving consumer tastes, this step forms part of the company’s long-term growth strategy. Designed to be an eco-friendly space, the KWAL Tatu City facility was developed leveraging go-green construction and includes systems for responsible consumption, recycling and reuse.
