  • Nigeria has signed a pivotal Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with key stakeholders and inaugurated the National Committee on Renewable Energy, Energy Efficiency, Innovation & Certification (NCREEIC).

The NCREEIC is set to transform Nigeria’s energy landscape through four core pillars: advancing innovation and research in clean energy solutions such as solar, wind, hydro, and bioenergy; fostering collaboration between government, the private sector, academia, and international partners; promoting local content development to empower Nigerian innovators and industries; and establishing globally recognized certifications and standards for renewable energy technologies.

This strategic initiative underscores Nigeria’s commitment to providing clean, affordable, and reliable energy for all citizens, while driving job creation, industrial development, and environmental sustainability. The NCREEIC positions Nigeria as a trailblazer in renewable energy innovation and certification across the region.

The ECN extends appreciation to all partners supporting this transformative journey. This initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes cleaner, greener energy through projects such as the ECN’s solarization programme and the Clean Cooking Gas Initiative—fostering sustainable development and inclusive economic growth. Together, we are building a greener and more resilient Nigeria.

Green Building Africa promotes the need for net carbon zero buildings and cities in Africa. We are fiercely independent and encourage outlying thinkers to contribute to the #netcarbonzero movement. Climate change is upon us and now is the time to react in a more diverse and broader approach to sustainability in the built environment. We challenge architects, property developers, urban planners, renewable energy professionals and green building specialists. We also challenge the funding houses and regulators and the role they play in facilitating investment into green projects. Lastly, we explore and investigate new technology and real-time data to speed up the journey in realising a net carbon zero environment for our children.
