- Nextpower has filed a patent infringement lawsuit against GameChange Energy in a US federal court, alleging infringement of three patents related to solar tracker and energy management technologies.
- GameChange Energy has denied the allegations and says it will vigorously defend itself against the claims.
- The legal dispute comes as GameChange Energy consolidates its solar tracker, transformer, eBOS, and asset monitoring businesses under a single global brand.
Nextpower, a provider of solar mounting and power technology solutions for utility scale power plants, has filed a patent infringement lawsuit against GameChange Energy in the United States District Court for the District of Delaware.
The lawsuit alleges that GameChange Energy infringed three patents covering Nextpower’s proprietary self powered solar tracker technology and its TrueCapture energy management control system. According to the complaint, the alleged infringement relates to the sale of GameChange’s Genius Tracker systems and associated software.
Dan Shugar, Founder and CEO of Nextpower, said the company invests significantly in research and development and is committed to protecting its intellectual property portfolio.
“Nextpower invests heavily in the development of our best in class solar tracker products, and we treat intellectual property very seriously,” Shugar said. “We respect legitimate competition, but we will vigorously defend our patent rights in all global markets in which we conduct business.”
Nextpower is seeking remedies available under US patent law, including injunctive relief and monetary damages.
In response, GameChange Energy rejected the allegations and stated that it intends to mount a full and vigorous defence against the claims.
The legal challenge comes as GameChange Energy announced the consolidation of its solar tracker, transformer, eBOS, and remote asset monitoring businesses under a single corporate identity. The company said the move reflects its evolution from a solar tracker manufacturer into an integrated energy infrastructure platform serving developers, EPC contractors, and utilities.
The rebranding unifies the company’s tracker, racking, transformer, eBOS, and asset monitoring solutions while maintaining existing operations and teams. The company said the consolidation is designed to support increasingly complex utility scale energy projects and strengthen its ability to scale across global markets.
“The GameChange Energy name tells the full story of what we offer now,” said Andrew Worden, Founder of GameChange Energy. “Utility scale projects are growing more complex, so developers need partners who can reduce risk and streamline installation for all project scales and types.”
GameChange Energy was established as the parent company of GameChange Solar and GameChange BOS following the launch of its transformer business in 2023. Since its founding in 2012, GameChange Solar has deployed more than 63 GW of solar tracker systems across six continents.
The company expanded its portfolio in 2025 with the opening of a 180,000 sq. ft. transformer manufacturing facility in Mumbai, India, with annual production capacity of 5,400 MVA.
Earlier this year, GameChange Energy strengthened its position in the balance of system market through the acquisition of Terrasmart’s eBOS division, adding a proven track record of 14 GW and a domestic manufacturing facility in Detroit, Michigan. The company also recently partnered with Raptor Maps to provide asset health monitoring solutions for renewable energy and critical power projects.
Phillip Vyhanek, CEO of GameChange Energy, said customers increasingly seek integrated solutions that reduce project complexity and supplier coordination challenges.
“The biggest challenge we hear from customers is vendor coordination,” Vyhanek said. “Managing multiple suppliers across trackers, eBOS, monitoring, and transformers adds cost and time to every project. Consolidating under a single brand simplifies and speeds that process for our clients.”
