NERSA grants Eskom generation licences for two solar projects totalling 94.5MW

  • South Africa’s energy regulator, NERSA, has approved the issuance of two licences to Eskom Holdings SOC Ltd to operate solar PV generation facilities, namely the 19.5MW Sere Solar PV Power Plant and 75MW Lethabo Solar PV Power Plant.ย 

Eskom applied for a licence to operate a 19.5MW solar PV facility located within Eskom Sere Power Station at Matzikama Local Municipality, Western Cape Province. The new PV facility will be located at a site with an existing wind power plant (Sere Power Station with 105.8MW of operational capacity).ย 

Regarding the Lethabo Solar PV Power Plant, Eskom applied for a generation licence to operate a 75MW solar PV facility at the Eskom Lethabo Power Station on Farm no. 1814, Metsimaholo Local Municipality, Free State Province. The Lethabo PV facility will be located at a site where there is an existing coal power plant (the Lethabo Power Station).ย
