- Mozambique’s energy utility, Eletricidade de Moçambique (EDM), plans to build a 100MW floating solar power plant with energy storage on the Chicamba reservoir in Manica province.
- The environmental impact assessment (EIA) study is underway for the project.
- The project will be financed by the African Development Bank (AfDB), through SEFA (Sustainable Energy for Africa) to the tune of US$2.5 million (€2.3 million).
Despite the growth in production, solar parks account for only 0.4% of total production in Mozambique which is led by hydroelectric plants with 82,2 % generated by the Cahora-Bassa Hydroelectric Plant.
Mozambique plans to build solar power stations in at least five parts of the country by 2030, with an estimated capacity of 1,000 MW of electricity production, promising a “true solar revolution”
