LONGi files counter lawsuit against JinkoSolar

  • LONGi Green Energy Technology has filed a counter lawsuit against JinkoSolar in the Intermediate Peopleโ€™s Court of Jinan, Shandong in China.
  • JinkoSolar has filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Longi alleging the use of an unspecified solar cell technology in China, USA , Japan and Australia.

There has been a significant escalation in the ongoing intellectual property battles within Chinaโ€™s solar sector in the last year as oversupply and low prices have placed immense strain on manufacturers. LONGiโ€™s case has been accepted by the Shandong court and will come up for hearing on March 20, 2025. LONGi has also filed a counterclaim against JinkoSolar in the US on January 21, 2025.

JinkoSolar said it holds more than 2,800 patents, including 462 related to n-type tunnel oxide passivated contact (TOPCon) technology.

In terms of solar cell technology, while JinkoSolar remains committed to TOPCon, while LONGiโ€™s focus more recently is on back contact architecture where it is promoting the companyโ€™s proprietary Hybrid Passivated Back Contact (HPBC) technology.
