Kimberly-Clark announces its intention to procure green, wheeled energy for its South African Plants

  • As part of its ongoing commitment to sustainability, emissions reduction, and its 2030 goal of improving people’s well-being while safeguarding natural systems, Kimberly-Clark will initiate a Request for Proposal (RFP) process during August 2025 to procure wheeled electricity from renewable sources for its Epping and Enstra Plants combined.

The RFP will be issued via the Independent Energy Pool (IEP) platform. Kimberly-Clark invites qualified renewable energy generators and traders with the capability to wheel electricity to the Enstra and Epping facilities to register on the IEP platform for participation (www.independentenergypool.com).

This initiative builds on the substantial progress that Kimberly-Clark has already made through the sourcing and generation of renewable energy and underscores the organisation’s continued commitment to minimising its environmental footprint across its global operations.

Green Building Africa promotes the need for net carbon zero buildings and cities in Africa. We are fiercely independent and encourage outlying thinkers to contribute to the #netcarbonzero movement. Climate change is upon us and now is the time to react in a more diverse and broader approach to sustainability in the built environment. We challenge architects, property developers, urban planners, renewable energy professionals and green building specialists. We also challenge the funding houses and regulators and the role they play in facilitating investment into green projects. Lastly, we explore and investigate new technology and real-time data to speed up the journey in realising a net carbon zero environment for our children.
