- JGC led consortium secures EPCIC contract for the Coral North FLNG project offshore Mozambique.
- New floating LNG facility will have a production capacity of 3.6 million tonnes per year, with first production targeted for 2028.
- Total contract value is below US$5 billion, with JGC Group’s share exceeding US$1 billion.
JGC Holdings Corporation has announced that its subsidiary, JGC France, together with Technip Energies France and South Korea’s Samsung Heavy Industries, has been awarded an engineering, procurement, construction, installation and commissioning contract for the Coral North floating liquefied natural gas project offshore Mozambique.
The contract was awarded by Mozambique Rovuma Venture on behalf of the Area 4 partners, comprising Eni, CNPC, ENH, XRG and KOGAS.
Located approximately 50 km off the coast of northern Mozambique, the Coral North project will feature a floating LNG facility with a production capacity of around 3.6 million tonnes per annum. LNG production is expected to commence in 2028.
Under the agreement, JGC France and Technip Energies, through their joint venture, will lead engineering and procurement activities for the FLNG topside facilities and oversee overall project management. Samsung Heavy Industries will be responsible for the engineering, procurement and construction of the vessel hull, as well as fabrication of the topside modules.
The contract is structured as a lump sum turnkey agreement and is valued at less than US$5 billion. JGC Group’s share of the contract exceeds US$1 billion.
Coral North marks Mozambique’s second FLNG development following the successful Coral South project. The same consortium of JGC Group, Technip and Samsung Heavy Industries delivered the Coral South facility, which achieved first LNG production in 2022 and continues to demonstrate strong operational performance.
The award further strengthens the longstanding relationship between the three contractors and the Area 4 partners, while reinforcing Mozambique’s position as a growing LNG hub in Africa.
JGC Group continues to expand its presence in the global LNG sector through participation in both offshore and onshore developments. The company is currently involved in major projects including the Ruwais LNG development in the United Arab Emirates and is undertaking front end engineering and design work for LNG projects in Canada, Mozambique and Indonesia.
The Coral North development is expected to contribute to increased LNG supply from Africa while supporting long term energy security and economic growth in Mozambique.
