JA Solar outlines best practice for packing and storing solar panels

JA Solar, a global supplier of photovoltaic technology and a long-standing partner to the renewable energy sector, has issued updated guidance on how to correctly pack and store its solar modules, underlining the link between proper handling and long term system performance.

The guidance follows JA Solar being ranked number one worldwide in the Wood Mackenzie Global Solar Module Manufacturer Ranking for the first half of 2025. The company achieved an overall score of 91.7, the highest among all manufacturers assessed.

The ranking, published by global energy research and consultancy firm Wood Mackenzie, evaluates 38 crystalline silicon PV module manufacturers from a customer centric perspective. Together, these companies represent the majority of global PV manufacturing capacity and shipments, making the ranking a widely used benchmark for bankability and operational strength.

Manufacturers are assessed across ten core dimensions, including manufacturing experience, vertical integration, capacity utilisation, technology maturity, research and development investment, financial strength, supply chain resilience, environmental social and governance performance, corporate social responsibility, and third party certification.

JA Solar recorded strong results across all categories, reflecting what the company describes as disciplined operations, a mature technology platform and proven reliability. According to Wood Mackenzie, this performance reinforces the company’s bankability and its ability to meet the requirements of developers, lenders and project partners globally.

Alongside the ranking, JA Solar has drawn attention to the importance of correct module storage, particularly for installers and EPC contractors. Improper handling and storage can result in micro cracks, which may not be immediately visible but can lead to reduced output and long-term reliability issues.

Abdennour Yahi, Head of Technical for Africa at JA Solar, has outlined the company’s official storage guidelines. These include careful two-person handling, precise stacking with the front side up first followed by face down stacking, and correct frame alignment when storing modules in a warehouse environment.

JA Solar says adherence to these guidelines helps protect project investments and ensures modules deliver their expected performance over their operational lifetime. The company has released a detailed video walkthrough to support teams working on site and in storage facilities across the region.
