Challenge Faced

Facing escalating electricity bills, a South African client sought an alternative energy solution to power their energy-intensive operations. To address this need, Kwikelec, a renewable energy solutions company, recommended a 50kW energy storage system that would not only meet the energy demands of the small holding but also significantly reduce operating costs. โ€œWe have installed multiple Solis systems; the tech support and assistance are exceptional. The Solis system itself works extremely well, although we have had a few minor issues, but they get resolved timeously,โ€ states Kwikelec.

Deployed Solution

Kwikelec implemented a comprehensive solution by pairing a 50kW Solis Hybrid Inverter with WeCo Batteries and 550W AE Tier 1 modules, installed in a well-ventilated room to ensure optimal performance and longevity. The system integrates seamlessly with an existing generator. Utilizing SolisCloud technology, the system offers remote operation capabilities, ensuring timely technical support, minimizing downtime and maintaining system efficiency.

Installation and Capacity:

  • 1 x 50kW Solis Hybrid Inverter
  • 8 x 5.3kW WeCo Batteries with 1 HV Box
  • 96 x 550W AE Tier 1 Modules (Manufactured in Germany)

Benefits

The installation of the 50kW Solis Hybrid Inverter system is expected to deliver several key benefits to the client:

Significant Cost Savings โ€“ The client is anticipated to save up to 80% on their electricity bill, providing substantial financial relief. According to Kwikelec, the end-user โ€œhas seen a significant reduction in his overall electricity bill โ€“ this happened within the first month of install.โ€

Environmental Impact โ€“ By decreasing reliance on the generator, the system contributes to a reduction in carbon emissions, aligning with global efforts to combat climate change.

Fuel Savings โ€“ With less dependency on the generator, the client will see significant savings on fuel costs, further enhancing the financial viability of the project.

With a mission to “Develop technology to power the world with clean energy,” Solis continues to lead in the delivery of innovative, efficient, and environmentally responsible solar solutions. As a global leader in photovoltaic (PV) inverter technology, Solis is dedicated to providing cost-effective solar solutions for homes, businesses, and large-scale projects, ensuring a sustainable future for all.

Green Building Africa promotes the need for net carbon zero buildings and cities in Africa. We are fiercely independent and encourage outlying thinkers to contribute to the #netcarbonzero movement. Climate change is upon us and now is the time to react in a more diverse and broader approach to sustainability in the built environment. We challenge architects, property developers, urban planners, renewable energy professionals and green building specialists. We also challenge the funding houses and regulators and the role they play in facilitating investment into green projects. Lastly, we explore and investigate new technology and real-time data to speed up the journey in realising a net carbon zero environment for our children.
