Italy’s Ecoprogetti has started commissioning a new 500 MW solar panel production for local manufacturer, Almaden Morocco, expanding the company’s total installed capacity to 1 GW.  Installation on the new line started in July this year and is scheduled for full commissioning at the end of the month.

Ecoprogetti claims the added capacity make it the largest solar PV panel manufacturing plant in North Africa. The new line features the most advanced technology based on TOPCon G12 18BB half-cut cells with a glass-glass configuration.

Ecoprogetti has also installed a 150MW production line in Nigeria using high-efficiency TOPCon and PERC cells, which can be expanded to 300 MW.

“This collaboration opens new horizons for the African solar market. Nigeria, being a leading nation in the continent, sets a precedent for other African countries to follow. The success of this initiative could trigger a ripple effect, leading to increased adoption of solar energy across Africa,” said Ecoprogetti in a statement.
