- The Africa Energy Indaba is proud to announce the launch of the Solar Africa Expo, a dedicated exhibition platform that will form part of the main Africa Energy Indaba exhibition.
- The 19th edition of the Africa Energy Indaba 2027, set to take place from 2–4 March 2027 at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC), Cape Town, South Africa.
The Solar Africa Expo has been created in response to the rapid growth of solar energy across Africa and the increasing demand for reliable, affordable and sustainable power solutions. Africa recorded its fastest year of solar growth in 2025, with installations rising by 54% year-on-year and approximately 4.5 GW of new solar capacity added across the continent, according to the Global Solar Council. The organisation also projects that Africa could add a further 23 GW of solar capacity by 2028, more than doubling its current installed base.
Despite this growth, Africa’s solar opportunity remains largely untapped. The International Energy Agency notes that Africa is home to 60% of the world’s best solar resources, yet accounts for only around 1% of installed solar PV capacity globally. This significant gap between resource potential and current deployment highlights the enormous market opportunity for solar developers, technology providers, financiers, EPCs, installers and storage companies across the continent.
Hosted within the Africa Energy Indaba, the Solar Africa Expo will provide a focused marketplace for solar technology providers, project developers, battery storage companies, manufacturers, installers, financiers and energy innovators to showcase their solutions and connect with key decision-makers from across Africa.
The platform will support engagement across the full solar value chain, including utility-scale solar, commercial and industrial solar, rooftop solar, off-grid and mini-grid solutions, battery energy storage, project finance, installation services, and enabling technologies.
“Solar energy is one of the most exciting growth opportunities in Africa’s energy sector,” said Liz Hart, Managing Director of the Africa Energy Indaba. “The launch of the Solar Africa Expo reflects the enormous market demand for practical, scalable and sustainable energy solutions. By creating a dedicated platform within the Africa Energy Indaba, we are giving solar companies direct access to the governments, investors, utilities, developers and commercial energy users who are shaping Africa’s energy future.”
As Africa continues to pursue energy security, industrial growth and universal access to electricity, the Solar Africa Expo will provide an important platform for collaboration, investment and business development. The Africa Energy Indaba invites solar and storage companies, project developers, technology providers and industry stakeholders to participate in the Solar Africa Expo and be part of Africa’s solar growth story.
