  • The project dubbed the Great Zimbabwe Hydro Power Project, is the first of its kind in Zimbabwe to be built adjacent to an existing ZINWA (Zimbabwe National Water Authority) dam, blending modern hydroelectric technology with an established water infrastructure. ย

The consortium of investors include the Danish investment fund, Frontier Energy Africa, local investors Old Mutual ZW, the Public Service Pension Fund, ZB Financial Holdings Pension Fund and MOL Power.

Construction works at the project started in March 2022 and the venture has aroused excitement within surrounding communities in Murinye and Chikwanda communal lands where the bulk of more than 150 unskilled workers were drawn from.

โ€œWe are thrilled to see the Great Zimbabwe Hydro Power Plant commence operations and begin contributing to Zimbabweโ€™s power grid, creating jobs and stimulating local economies in Masvingo and surrounding regions,โ€ said Daniel Schultz one of the founding partners of Frontier Energy.

Green Building Africa promotes the need for net carbon zero buildings and cities in Africa. We are fiercely independent and encourage outlying thinkers to contribute to the #netcarbonzero movement. Climate change is upon us and now is the time to react in a more diverse and broader approach to sustainability in the built environment. We challenge architects, property developers, urban planners, renewable energy professionals and green building specialists. We also challenge the funding houses and regulators and the role they play in facilitating investment into green projects. Lastly, we explore and investigate new technology and real-time data to speed up the journey in realising a net carbon zero environment for our children.
