Solar Electricity
Electricity is directly produced from the sun & converted for on-demand use in your factory/stored for use at another time. The systems available can be independent (stand-alone) of the main electricity supply grid/work in conjunction with your existing electricity supply. The system is made up of solar panels & an inverter (converts DC power from the solar panels to AC power for consumption). In some cases batteries are also included to store the excess power.
There are currently two types of incentives available to the factory owner:
- The Department of Trade and Industry provides a grant for Green Technology and resource efficiency improvement . The fund is performance driven and the amounts granted are based on certified Financial statement detailing manufacturing turnover in relation to energy saving initiatives. The objective of this incentive is to support projects with green technology upgrades and business development activities that will lead to cleaner production and resource efficiency. Read more
- Eskom also offers a rebate based on performance (how much electricity is save). The rebate is offered under the demand management funding models.
What You Need To Know:
Avoid a complex duct system with limited access. Ideally the entire system should be exposed but networked outside main work areas
