Water Saving Starts at the Point of Use

  • As has been well documented in all media outlets, Cape Town (and by extension, the Western Cape) have faced some pretty strict water regulations in recent years.
  • Ever since the Day Zero Water Crisis of 2017/18, Cape Town residents have been making industrious strides toward curbing their water wastage habits.

However, it was recently reported that the city is reaching higher in consumption rates, increasing to 644-million litres per day. This is within the limit of 650-million litres per day, but is still a rather worrying development, as supply dams may face unexpected lowering of reserves. While the situation appears to be in hand for the nonce, Hansgrohe are back on Mother Nature’s Change Train with their views on how best to save water.

Simple Water Saving Tips

These are but a few small things you can do to ensure you aren’t putting our precious H2O to waste.

  1. Put a water bottle in the loo. Weight the bottle with sand and stone and then fill it with water and place it safely inside the tank. This can save up to 20 litres a day in the average home.
  2. Check for leaks. Regularly. The toilet, the taps, the sinks, the pipes – these could all be wasting water if they aren’t in the proper nick. Constant vigilance.
  3. Install water-saving products in your bathrooms and kitchens.

Be Smart. EcoSmart.

With reference to option 3 – Hansgrohe is the way to go. The German powerhouse’s unique innovation known as EcoSmart has completely revolutionised the industry, and means that the common home owner has very little in the way of excuses for excessive water consumption. EcoSmart, a feature on many of Hansgrohe’s newer products, restricts water flow to 5l p/m – a far cry from the industry average of 9l p/m.
