Container Homes Do Not Have to Look Like Containers

Shipping containers have become a trendy starting point for modular house design nowadays. They offer a sturdy practical frame and modular configuration as a starting point for a new modern home. They are also more affordable than a house made from bricks and mortar.

The challenge for architects is to overcome the external ‘corrugated’ aesthetics and fixed rectangular shape. These days, intelligent design has seen container homes emerge as stylish high-value homes.  External features using natural materials offer flexibility in design and style. There is something for everyone.

A containerised home also offers opportunities for the integration of green features like solar power and water recycling tanks. With a push, the container home can be off-grid. The configuration can also allow the opportunity of relocation if required.

Green Building Africa promotes the need for net carbon zero buildings and cities in Africa. We are fiercely independent and encourage outlying thinkers to contribute to the #netcarbonzero movement. Climate change is upon us and now is the time to react in a more diverse and broader approach to sustainability in the built environment. We challenge architects, property developers, urban planners, renewable energy professionals and green building specialists. We also challenge the funding houses and regulators and the role they play in facilitating investment into green projects. Lastly, we explore and investigate new technology and real-time data to speed up the journey in realising a net carbon zero environment for our children.
