West African Alliance on Carbon Markets and Carbon Finance seeks to hire local experts

  • The West African Alliance on carbon markets and carbon finance (WAA) was officially launched in 2017 as a regional platform aimed at fostering carbon markets and result-based climate finance in west Africa.
  • The West African Allianceโ€™s vision is that West African countries have the institutional capacity and support network for long-term engagement with carbon markets and climate finance.

Context for hiring local experts

Now in its third phase of implementation (2024-2028), the Alliance builds on the success of its two previous funding phases (2017-2020; 2020-2024), to deepen incountry work as well as sub-regional cooperation. A key priority remains supporting WAA focal points in advancing national Article 6 readiness, which continues to be a central objective of the Alliance. This requires a collaborative and localised approach that empowers member countries to address their unique challenges and seize opportunities while simultaneously fostering regional and sub-regional synergies.

Against this backdrop, the process of hiring local experts represents a strategic step toward realising this vision. The selected experts will be well-positioned to work alongside partners and the Alliance Secretariat in identifying needs and ensuring that Article 6 readiness activities are effectively integrated into national strategies while fostering enhanced opportunities for multi-country collaboration and engagement.

Green Building Africa promotes the need for net carbon zero buildings and cities in Africa. We are fiercely independent and encourage outlying thinkers to contribute to the #netcarbonzero movement. Climate change is upon us and now is the time to react in a more diverse and broader approach to sustainability in the built environment. We challenge architects, property developers, urban planners, renewable energy professionals and green building specialists. We also challenge the funding houses and regulators and the role they play in facilitating investment into green projects. Lastly, we explore and investigate new technology and real-time data to speed up the journey in realising a net carbon zero environment for our children.
