- Chanelle Hingston, Group Director, Power & Energy Events for Clarion Events Africa has announced that the Utility Week and POWERGEN Africa conference and exhibition has been postponed 24 – 26 November 2020.
- The decision was made due to the current status of the global COVID-19 virus and the South African government’s declaration of a state of disaster resulting in various travel bans and restrictions on large meetings.
“Taking into account the general health and personal security of our customers and staff, we have taken the appropriate decision to postpone African Utility Week and POWERGEN Africa to 24 – 26 November 2020,” announced Hingston. The venue – the CTICC in Cape Town – remains unchanged.
All stakeholders will be contacted by a member of the event project team who will provide support and information on the transition process. It is expected that all current participation agreements shall be valid for the revised event dates.
Hingston added that the decision was made to continue with the event in 2020 after consultation with partners and customers as the event is well recognised for its contribution to the continental power sector, providing a platform to connect stakeholders and facilitating profitable relationships. “It is also important, at this time, to remember the challenges the African power sector faces in achieving energy security and the value an event such as African Utility Week and POWERGEN Africa brings to the African market economy. The fastest road to our future is for private enterprise and public enterprise to come together and agree sustainable development and recovery plans.”
“Africa and the world are facing unprecedented challenges due to COVID-19 and it is only by working together that we can both face the challenge and ensure minimal disruption to commercial activity. Together we can do our part to lessen the impact,” concluded Hingston.
