- Mr Phumzile Tshelane has been removed from his position as the Chief Executive Officer and Board member of Nuclear Energy Corporation of SA (NECSA).

In a brief statement earlier today South Africa’s Energy Minister Mr Jeff Radebe confirmed that after considering the serious nature of the charges against Mr Phumzile Tshelane together with the Board resolution and the recommendation of the Disciplinary Panel, he has remove Mr Phumzile Tshelane in his position as the Chief Executive Officer and Board member of Nuclear Energy Corporation of SA (NECSA).
An Auditor General South Africa (AGSA) report delivered earlier this year in February found an adverse outcome on Necsa and casted doubt on its ability to continue as a going concern.
Tshelane and Necsa’s suspended Chair, Dr Kelvin Kemm, believe that the negative report is part of a strategy orchestrated to discredit members of the Board standing in the way of a corrupt deal that would see Energy Minister Jeff Radebe sell the lucrative Necsa owned nuclear medicine subsidiary, NTP Radioisotopes, to an American company. Tshelane was also party to a cooperation agreement signed with Rusatom Healthcare, a subsidiary of Russian nuclear agency Rosatom.
