SA IPP Association Welcomes Raising of Threshold for Generator Licensing From 1 to 100MW

In a statement, the body representing independent power producers in South Africa, said that they have been proposing changes to Schedule 2 for the past 4 years “as we are convinced that relaxing the restrictive requirements for licensing of IPP generators will go a long way in improving the climate for generation investments. This has been borne out recently by a survey of SAIPPA members, where at least 18 projects have been developed and are ready for finalisation and execution.”

We are encouraged by the President’s recognition of the need for “…bold and urgent action.” – a sentiment that has been sorely lacking in the past 13 years of load shedding. Further, Government “..remaining agile and willing to adapt..” are attributes that are needed in the fast changing energy needs of South Africa.

Green Building Africa promotes the need for net carbon zero buildings and cities in Africa. We are fiercely independent and encourage outlying thinkers to contribute to the #netcarbonzero movement. Climate change is upon us and now is the time to react in a more diverse and broader approach to sustainability in the built environment. We challenge architects, property developers, urban planners, renewable energy professionals and green building specialists. We also challenge the funding houses and regulators and the role they play in facilitating investment into green projects. Lastly, we explore and investigate new technology and real-time data to speed up the journey in realising a net carbon zero environment for our children.
