- They met Namibian officials and stakeholders to discuss investment opportunities in the Namibian green hydrogen and ammonia sectors.
The Africa-EU Energy Partnership (AEEP) joined panel discussions to elaborate on how a Namibia-EU collaboration could be an ideal strategic partnership enabling a climate-neutral Europe. The AEEP’s Green Hydrogen Policy Brief and research paper assess the potential of green hydrogen to enable economic growth and job creation on and between the continents. They conclude that optimal outcomes would be reached if the green hydrogen development trajectory between the continents.
“We came to Europe saying we have this amazing sun,” said James Mnyupe, economic adviser to the Namibian presidency. He was in Rotterdam earlier this month for the “World Hydrogen Summit” trade fair and on Wednesday was making a pitch in Paris ahead of a trip to Davos.
In november last year the Namibian government awarded HYPHEN Hydrogen Energy as preferred bidder to develop the country’s first large-scale vertically integrated green hydrogen project in the Tsau //Khaeb national park. The project, worth an estimated US$9.4 billion, will ultimately produce 300,000 tons of green hydrogen per year for regional and global markets, either as pure green hydrogen or in derivative form (green ammonia).
