Musician Akon to Develop Crypto City in Senegal

  • The Crypto City, which has received the green light from the government, is the brainchild of local musician and entrepreneur Akon.
  • The new metropolis will be built on a 2,000-acre piece of land in Senegal, which has been gifted to Akon by Hon. Macky Sall, the president of Senegal.
  • The project will be located in the seaside village of Mbodiene, five minutes from Senegal’s new international airport.

Akon’s Crypto City will be the first of its kind. A 100% crypto-based city that will be built exclusively for Akon’s crypto currency, ‘Akoin’ which will be launched in July 2020. The new Akoin crypto forms part of the Akoin Ecosystem, a unique global project that offers an abundance of digital and in-real-life platforms and experiences that create opportunity and inclusion for youth entrepreneurs by allowing consumers to buy, hold, and spend cryptocurrency right from their smartphone through a suite of blockchain-powered apps.

The Akoin Ecosystem unlocks the potential of the world’s largest emerging economy through the creation of a stable currency and innovative, revenue-generating opportunities that stimulate and support youth entrepreneurship, economic stability, and growth across Africa and the world.

The Crypto City in the world will feature blends from leading Smart City planning designs with a blank canvas for cryptonizing daily human and business exchanges, with the goal of inventing a radical new way of existence. It will also be an all renewable city lighted by solar power. According to the entrepreneur, the project will take 10 years to be completed and construction will be done in phases.

Green Building Africa promotes the need for net carbon zero buildings and cities in Africa. We are fiercely independent and encourage outlying thinkers to contribute to the #netcarbonzero movement. Climate change is upon us and now is the time to react in a more diverse and broader approach to sustainability in the built environment. We challenge architects, property developers, urban planners, renewable energy professionals and green building specialists. We also challenge the funding houses and regulators and the role they play in facilitating investment into green projects. Lastly, we explore and investigate new technology and real-time data to speed up the journey in realising a net carbon zero environment for our children.
