Hyundai’s New Sonata Hybrid Gets a Solar Roof

  • Hyundai has introduced a solar roof on its Sonata model which will become available next year.
  • According to the company, the roof can increase the vehicle’s overall yearly range by about 1300km (808 miles) as long as the car gets six hours of sun each day.
  • That works out to an extra 3.6 kilometers per day (2.2 miles) which is not going to save the planet but it does cancel out some parking money.

Hyundai has only revealed the powertrain specs of the model designed for the Korean market which consists of a 4-cylinder 2.0-liter internal combustion engine that produces 150 hp paired with an electric motor that produces 51 hp. When working together, the total horsepower output measures in at 192 hp and it is sent to all four wheels via a six-speed hybrid automatic transmission.

Green Building Africa promotes the need for net carbon zero buildings and cities in Africa. We are fiercely independent and encourage outlying thinkers to contribute to the #netcarbonzero movement. Climate change is upon us and now is the time to react in a more diverse and broader approach to sustainability in the built environment. We challenge architects, property developers, urban planners, renewable energy professionals and green building specialists. We also challenge the funding houses and regulators and the role they play in facilitating investment into green projects. Lastly, we explore and investigate new technology and real-time data to speed up the journey in realising a net carbon zero environment for our children.
