Hansgrohe Turns 120!

  • During its 120 years of creating unforgettable water experiences, hansgrohe has progressively reinvented innovative, sustainable bathroom and kitchen design on a global scale.
  • And it is this fresh, free-flowing creative spirit that has made hansgrohe the multi-award-winning company it is today.

2021 has once again seen hansgrohe shine on the world stage, having scooped up the recent German Brand Award 2021, in the “Excellence in Brand Strategy and Creation” category, where hansgrohe won the Gold award for Brand Refresh in the category. hansgrohe is also a five-time Best of the Best award-winner and most recently, winner of the ICONIC Awards: Innovative Architecture. The team at Hansgrohe has given the company’s ongoing commitment to sustainability and innovation a name: the #hansfactor – a philosophy that has set the company apart for more than a century.

The #hansfactor was born on 15 June 1901. On this (more than likely) rainy day, founding father, Hans Grohe, launched a handicraft business for metal products in Schiltach in the Kinzig Valley, Black Forest.

Perhaps it was the notoriously rainy climate in Schiltach that inspired one of Hans Grohe’s best-known innovations: a tin shower that was used in the bathroom. Showers were a relatively new concept at the time, but they were becoming more popular. And his creation of the product signalled the beginning of something that would grow far beyond his expectations.

Soon, Hans began specialising entirely in metal goods for the bathroom. And in the years to follow, he dedicated his time to re-engineering his range of showers. Hans Grohe went on to become a recognised shower specialist, pioneering new ideas that have shaped the industry as we know it. And in 1928, his hand shower entered the market as a convenient alternative to the overhead shower.

Today, his ideas remain influential, even in modern shower technology. And even at the age of 82, Hans Grohe invented another modern mainstay in many bathrooms – the wall bar. The wall bar allows the hand shower to be attached to the wall at the user’s desired height.

From its humble beginnings, hansgrohe has now grown into a global a company with 33 subsidiaries, 22 sales offices and roughly 5000 employees all over the world. And as the 2020s progress, the ongoing story of hansgrohe continues to be written with passion and a culture of innovation.

Many things may have changed since that day way back in 1901, but not hansgrohe’s passion for water and mission to always lead with style when it comes to its work and products. hansgrohe remains eternally committed to this vision – then, now and in the future. That is the #hansfactor.
