- Bulk electricity supply interruptions to Mamusa Local Municipality will proceed from 08 May 2026, affecting Migdol and surrounding villages near Schweizer Reneke during scheduled daily time slots.
Eskom has suspended its planned bulk electricity interruptions to Dr Beyers Naude Local Municipality and Kai !Garib Local Municipality following recent legal and procedural developments, while supply interruptions to Mamusa Local Municipality will proceed as scheduled from 08 May 2026.
The utility had previously issued a final notice confirming its intention to interrupt bulk electricity supply to the three municipalities due to their continued failure to settle outstanding electricity accounts. Eskom also confirmed that nine municipalities have now secured council resolutions to enter into Distribution Agency Agreements.
Dr Beyers Naude Local Municipality has filed an urgent court application seeking to halt the planned interruption. The matter is expected to be heard on 14 May 2026. Eskom said it would suspend the interruption of electricity supply pending the outcome of the court process and any directive issued by the court.
Kai !Garib Local Municipality has also requested a suspension of the planned interruption as it prepares an urgent court application, which is expected to be filed on 11 May 2026. Eskom agreed to suspend the interruption on the basis that the municipality proceeds with the application. The utility warned that failure to do so would result in the interruption of bulk supply being implemented at short notice.
Eskom said stakeholders should note that electricity interruptions to the two municipalities will therefore no longer commence on 08 May 2026 as previously communicated.
The utility confirmed, however, that the interruption of bulk electricity supply to Mamusa Local Municipality will continue as planned from 08 May 2026. The affected areas include Migdol and the villages surrounding Schweizer Reneke.
The scheduled interruptions will take place daily from 06:30 to 10:30, 16:30 to 20:30 and 00:30 to 04:30.
Eskom said it remains committed to working with municipalities to find sustainable solutions to outstanding debt while limiting the impact on communities and safeguarding the financial sustainability of the utility and the continued provision of electricity services.
