- The Ministry of Energy Transition and Renewable Energy in Algeria has launched a 1GW Solar PV Tender with projects ranging in size from 50MW to 300MW.
- Selected independent power producers (IPP’s) will be awarded a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) and each developer will be allowed to tender for one or more lots for a maximum cumulative capacity of 300MW.
- The submission deadline is 30 April 2022.
The project falls under Algeria’s plans to roll out 4GW solar PV generation capacity in the next five years. The master plan named TAFOUK1, falls under the auspices of the country’s Energy Ministry, and is expected to draw $3.2-3.6 billion over the five-year period, growing the country’s approximate 400MW of current generation capacity.
The tender will be managed by Algerian Renewable Energy Company (SHAEMS), jointly owned by state-owned gas giant Sonatrach and power utility Sonelgaz, which will be allowed to take a share of up to 25% in the special purpose vehicles that will own the winning projects.
