China’ s CMEC and International Engineering firm WorleyParsons have concluded a 22-month contract with Independent Power Producer, Kipeto Energy Limited to construct the Kipeto Wind Power Project in Kenya. The project will be located south west of Nairobi and will have a capacity of 102 Mw, making it the second largest wind farm in Kenya after the 310Mw Lake Turkana Wind Power Project.
The project will consist of 60 GE wind turbines and will cover around 70 square kilometers. China’ s CMEC will be will be responsible for the design, supply, civil engineering and construction, installation, training, commissioning, technical services and other works of the project on a turnkey basis. 1000 local jobs are expected to be created during the construction phase.
The project value is estimated at around US$221 million. Kenya Power is the off-taker.
